Our Story

About Heather
Under One Sky Animal Rescue (UOSAR) was founded by respected tattoo artist, business owner and animal lover Heather Sinn.

"When I look up at all the vast space and countless stars it makes me realize how we are all living under one sky... Animals and humans existing together, and how this planet belongs to all of us equally!" -Heather Sinn

After seeing a video about Cat House on The Kings (an amazing one-of-a-kind no kill rescue in Parlier, California), Heather has made it her life's work to build a similar sanctuary in Los Angeles, where animals can roam outdoors safely without fear of harm.
Cats
Unlike traditional shelters where residents are often caged for the remainder of their lives (which in the case of "kill shelters" can be as little as three days), UOSAR allows all our rescued cats to roam freely, thriving in their natural habitat. Access to sunlight, fresh air, plenty of room to exercise as well as a high quality nutrition are at the core of our mission.

Indoor shelter and outside access is available to all the kitties of UOSAR. Moreover, extensive fencing is utilized to prevent predators from entering the property as well as protecting the local wildlife from our kitties natural instinct to hunt.
There are plenty of ramps and padding for our paraplegic residents so that they can also enjoy the wonderful fenced in enclosure.
T
rained UOSAR staff and volunteers socialize and play with all the kitties we rescue.

Currently, UOSAR has 3 paraplegic cats as permanent residents. Paraplegia is considered a death sentence by most people and 9 out of 10 veterinarians recommend euthanasia... but we feel much differently. We believe that having a disability is not a burden. All of the special needs kitties in our care are happy and thriving. Just have a look at our instagram and Facebook pages to see for yourself! @underoneskyrescue

Ultimately our goal is to rehabilitate the cats in our care and place them in forever loving homes. If no adopter is found or the animal is not adoptable due to injury they will remain in our care for the rest of their lives without fear of abuse, neglect or predators.
TNR
"Trap and release" means humanely trapping stray and feral cats, taking them to a local spay and neuter clinic and then releasing them back into the same environment they were found... unless they are friendly, in which case we find them forever, loving homes.
UOSAR works with local trappers to help keep the population of stray and feral cats under control. We have seen too many cats and kittens die in the streets from malnutrition,URI's and parasite infestation. The only way to end this tragedy is TNR. Please spread the word about spay and neuter and how important it is for all cat and dog owners to spay and neuter their pets. If your cat roams your neighborhood at night and is not "fixed" you are contributing to the problem.
Please always get your animals spayed and neutered.
wildlife
UOSAR is so proud to be certified in wildlife rehabilitation! We love ALL animals and want to help as many animals thrive as we can. Currently we have 5 baby opossums in our care. We love these little marsupials and wish that the public knew how special they are and how important they are to our environment. Tragically most of the babies we take in are orphans. More often then not their mothers were hit by cars. Opossums have bad eyesight and hearing so they don't see the car until it is too late. Once our little wards are big and healthy enough to thrive on their own we release them into a habitat with food and fresh water readily available to them.
*more information on opossums coming soon!
How Can I Help?
Currently, UOSAR is in need of fosters. Fostering is a wonderful way to help without the long term commitment that adoption brings.
If you would like to help by becoming a foster please fill out the form on the Volunteer page!
